Key Stage 3 Tuition
The move into secondary school brings new subjects, new teachers and a different way of learning. For some students it is an exciting change. For others, it can be the point where small gaps in understanding begin to grow or confidence starts to dip.
At Progress Education Centre, we provide Key Stage 3 tuition to help students strengthen their understanding, build confidence and develop the skills they will need as they progress towards GCSE.
We offer tuition in English, Maths and Science at our centres in Darwen and Haslingden.
Supporting Progress Through Key Stage 3
Years 7, 8 and 9 are about much more than preparing for GCSEs. They are an important opportunity to make sure the foundations are in place.
A student may need help with a particular topic, may have fallen behind in an area of the curriculum or may simply benefit from having more time to work through something than is available in a busy classroom.
Our tutors take the time to identify individual strengths and areas where additional support would be useful.
We work with each student to develop an individual learning plan with achievable short-term targets. Progress is monitored and assessed, with learning linked to the National Curriculum.
This allows tuition to focus on what the student actually needs rather than simply giving everybody the same worksheets or working through topics they already understand.
English, Maths and Science Tuition
Our Key Stage 3 students can receive support in English, Maths and Science.
English tuition can help students develop their reading, comprehension and writing skills, as well as their confidence when explaining ideas and responding to different types of text.
Maths tuition can reinforce key mathematical knowledge while giving students more time to work through topics they find difficult. We also encourage students to develop their problem-solving skills and become more confident tackling unfamiliar questions.
Science tuition helps students develop their understanding of important scientific ideas and learn how to apply their knowledge to questions and problems.
As students progress through Key Stage 3, this stronger foundation can make the transition into GCSE study much more manageable.
Testimonials
My daughter enjoys going and has started to get more confident with numbers. The staff are friendly and my daughter is very comfortable working with them.
Small Group Tuition With Individual Attention
Tuition at Progress Education Centre takes place in small groups.
Students study alongside their peers while still receiving individual attention from their tutor. Each student can work at their own pace and level, with support targeted towards their particular needs.
Our tutors are qualified, experienced and enthusiastic. Many also work in local schools and have a strong understanding of the curriculum and the challenges students can face at different stages of their education.
Just as importantly, we want students to feel comfortable asking questions when they do not understand something.
Sometimes the biggest barrier to progress is not ability. It is confidence.
Building Independent Learners
Our aim is not simply to help a student complete this week’s schoolwork.
We want them to become more confident and independent learners.
Alongside subject knowledge, we encourage students to develop effective study skills, improve motivation and become more willing to tackle challenges for themselves.
We maintain open communication with parents and carers and our tutors are available to provide regular, informed feedback about progress.
